March 26, 2025: Called to Fulfill of God's Law
When Jesus Christ preached to His disciples and the people, He made it clear that He did not come to abolish the Law or the Prophets but to fulfill them. Matthew 5:17-19 enumerated the following points:
1. Jesus Came to Fulfill, Not
Abolish
Many believed that Jesus came to end the Jewish Law, but He clarified that
His mission was to complete it. The prophecies and laws of the Old Testament
were meant to point to the coming of the Messiah. Through His life, death, and
resurrection, Jesus fulfilled the true purpose of the Law.
2. God’s Law is Eternal
Jesus emphasized that not even the smallest detail of God’s Law would
disappear until its purpose was fully achieved. This shows that God’s
principles are not temporary but hold eternal value for all generations.
3. The Importance of Obedience and
Teaching
Jesus warned that those who disregard His commandments and mislead others
will be considered least in God's kingdom. However, those who obey and teach
His words will be honored. This underscores the importance of living a life
that reflects God’s truth and leading others in righteousness.
People Who Upheld God’s Law
1. William Wilberforce – Fighting for Justice
William Wilberforce, a British politician and devout Christian, lived by
God’s commandments in his fight against slavery. Inspired by his faith, he
dedicated his life to the abolitionist movement, believing that slavery was
against God’s law of love and justice. His unwavering obedience to biblical
principles led to the passing of the Slavery Abolition Act of 1833.
2. Mother Teresa – Living a Life of Love and Compassion
Mother Teresa dedicated her entire life to serving the poor and needy,
following the commandment of love and selflessness that Jesus taught. She once
said, “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with
great love.” Her life exemplifies how obedience to God’s law transforms
lives and communities.
3. Eric Liddell – Choosing Faith Over Fame
Eric Liddell, an Olympic gold medalist, refused to compete in his race at
the 1924 Olympics because it was scheduled on a Sunday. He prioritized honoring
God’s commandments over personal glory. His faith and unwavering commitment to
God’s law inspired millions and later led him to serve as a missionary in
China.
Lessons for Us
1. Jesus
is the fulfillment of God’s promises: We should follow His teachings
wholeheartedly.
2. God’s
law is timeless: It still guides us in living a righteous life.
3. Our
actions matter: Like Wilberforce, Mother Teresa, and Liddell, our
obedience to God’s word can impact others and glorify Him.
Matthew 5:17-19 reminds us that Jesus didn’t come to erase God’s
commandments but to show us how to live them out in their fullest meaning. Let
us strive to follow His example and live in obedience to His divine truth.
