March 12, 2025: Are You Looking for Signs to Believe in Jesus?

In Luke 11:29-32, Jesus rebukes those seeking miraculous signs, saying, "This generation is an evil generation; it seeks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah." His words challenge us to examine our faith—are we trusting in Jesus, or are we waiting for some grand proof before we believe?

Faith That Demands Signs

Many people say, "If God would just give me a sign, I would believe!" We look for dramatic miracles, expecting God to prove Himself on our terms. But the truth is, faith that depends on signs is not faith at all—it’s doubt in disguise.

The Israelites saw the Red Sea part, manna fall from heaven, and yet they still doubted God. The Pharisees witnessed Jesus heal the sick and raise the dead, but they still refused to believe. Signs don’t create faith; they only reveal the condition of our hearts.

The Sign of Jonah: The Ultimate Proof

Jesus pointed to "the sign of Jonah"—a reference to His own death and resurrection. Just as Jonah spent three days in the belly of the great fish and was brought back, Jesus would spend three days in the tomb before rising again. His resurrection is the ultimate sign, proving His identity as the Son of God.

If the people of Nineveh repented at Jonah’s preaching, and the Queen of Sheba traveled miles to seek Solomon’s wisdom, how much more should we believe in Jesus, who is greater than both (Luke 11:31-32)? The real question is not whether God has given enough signs—it’s whether we are willing to believe.

Faith That Trusts Without Seeing

Jesus told Thomas, "Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed" (John 20:29). Real faith is not about waiting for proof—it’s about trusting in what God has already revealed.

Instead of asking for signs, let’s ask for eyes to see God’s presence in our daily lives. We may not witness fire from heaven, but we see His love in the kindness of a stranger, His faithfulness in answered prayers, and His power in the transformation of lives.

A Personal Reflection

Are you waiting for a sign to believe in Jesus? The greatest sign has already been given—His death and resurrection. What more do we need?

Rather than asking God to prove Himself, let’s respond with faith. Let’s trust that His Word is true and His promises are sure. Because in the end, faith is not about seeing signs—it’s about seeing Jesus.

"For we walk by faith, not by sight." – 2 Corinthians 5:7
