March 1, 2025: Embracing Childlike Faith
Faith is
often seen as a journey of growth, but Jesus reminds us that it is also about
simplicity. In Matthew 18:3, He says, "Truly I tell you, unless you
change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of
heaven." What does it mean to have childlike faith?
One
evening, a father and his young daughter walked along the beach. The waves
crashed, and the wind howled, but the little girl held her father’s hand
without fear. As they reached a rocky area, the father said, “Hold on to me
tightly.” Instead, the girl smiled and said, “No, Daddy, you hold on to me. If
I hold on, I might let go. But if you hold me, I know you never will.”
This is
the essence of childlike faith—trusting that God will never let go, even when
life’s waves crash around us.
Children
trust their parents completely. They do not worry about their needs. In the
same way, God invites us to trust Him fully. Proverbs 3:5 urges us to "trust
in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding."
A childlike faith surrenders fears, knowing God is in control.
Children
find joy in the smallest things. As adults, we often lose this sense of wonder.
Yet, Psalm 19:1 reminds us, "The heavens declare the glory of
God." When we cultivate awe, we see God’s hand in both the grand and
the ordinary moments of life.
Children
come to their parents openly, seeking help and guidance. Jesus praised this
humility in Matthew 18:4. To have childlike faith is to acknowledge our
dependence on God with an open heart.
A child’s
heart is full of joy, unburdened by worries. Philippians 4:6-7 encourages us to
"not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and
petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." When we
trust in Him, we experience peace beyond understanding.
Childlike
faith is pure—full of trust, wonder, humility, and joy. It surrenders control,
delights in God’s presence, and believes wholeheartedly in His love. May we
always seek to trust as children do, finding peace and joy in the arms of our
Heavenly Father.
